The American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life of Clark event is scheduled to be held on June 12 -13, 2009 at the Arthur L. Johnson High School Athletic Field. Relay For Life is a unique volunteer-driven, community event that allows participants from all walks of life – including cancer survivors, families, friends, corporations, civic organizations, schools, religious groups and concerned community members – to join together in the fight against cancer. Relay For Life is an overnight celebration where teams and individuals camp out, picnic, dance, and take turns walking or running around a track “relay” style.  At nightfall, participants light hundreds of luminaria candles around the track in a touching ceremony honoring cancer survivors as well as paying tribute to those lost to the disease.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of Relay For Life. Started by Dr. Gordy Klatt in Tacoma, Washington in 1985, Relay For Life is now hosted in over 5000 communities throughout the world.
