EDISON – Police are investigating a child luring attempt that took place last week on Grove Avenue.

An 11-year-old girl was walking by herself from the library on the afternoon of Jan. 6. She was on the grass of St. Helena’s R.C. Church when a black four-door vehicle pulled up alongside her, police said.

A man lowered the window and said “My name is David. Your mom called me to pick you up,” according to police.

The girl did not recognize the man and continued on her way home. The car continued to follow her, so she turned around and went back to the library, police said. She called her parents, who reported the incident to police on Jan. 7.

The man, who was described as a clean shaven white man with black hair in his mid-30s, never got out of the car.

Police are asking anyone with information to call Detective Frank Varga at 732-248-7533.
