RAHWAY—On Friday, members of the Policeman’s Benevolent Association Local 31 dedicated a memorial to Rahway Police Officer Charles Bernoskie at the site where he was killed 50 years ago.
The monument on the corner of West Milton and St. Georges avenues, where the Miller Pontiac car dealership once stood, is the latest effort to hail Bernoskie, the seventh Rahway police officer killed in the line of duty.
Since its inception in 2000, the Charles Bernoskie Scholarship has granted over $50,000 for deserving Rahway residents to continue their education.
“Growing up I remember hearing stories about Officer Bernoskie” said Rahway Police Capt. John Grahill. “He definitely made the ultimate sacrifice. He left behind a wife and six kids making the ultimate sacrifice.”
