Soldier Visits St. Mary’s

ELIZABETH—Sgt. James Russo of the 404th Civil Affairs Battalion, based at Fort Dix, visited St. Mary’s High School on Thursday, Nov. 6, to talk to the students about Veterans Day and what it means to serve in the military.

Sgt. James Russo of the 404th Civil Affairs Battalion recently visited St. Mary’s High School in Elizabeth

Russo was deployed to Iraq in March of 2003 and served in Northern Iraq until April of 2004. As a member of the 10th Special Forces Group and the 101st Airborne Division, Russo helped train the Iraqi police and border patrol.

While at St. Mary’s, Russo told stories of his interaction with the Iraqi people and showed slides depicting life in Iraq. He also spoke of the many ways the American people have showed their gratitude to the current military.

Veterans Day honors those who have made the sacrifice to serve their county and Russo applauds the young men and women to enlist.
