Linden Plans Halloween Activities

LINDEN—With the Halloween season just around the corner, the Linden Recreation Department and the 2008 Linden Halloween Committee are gearing up for the many activities they have planned for Linden’s young residents.  From the 59th annual Halloween Parade to the Pumpkin Painting and Poster Painting contest, a lot is planned that will be enjoyed by both young and old.

The 59th Annual Halloween Parade will be held on Sunday, Oct. 26 at 2 p.m. The parade will feature children and adults in costume, decorated vehicles, bands, antique cars, floats and much more.  Last year, approximately 8,000 people attended the parade.

If you would like to participate by marching as a group or individual, enter a float or a decorated vehicle, call the John T. Gregorio Recreation Center at 908-474-8627. In the event of rain, the parade will be held Monday, Oct. 27 at 7 p.m.

Meetings for the planning of the parade are held at the Gregorio Center, 330 Helen Street, at 7 p.m. on Oct. 15 and 22.

The Halloween pumpkin painting contest for children in pre-kindergarten through fifth grade will be held on Friday, Oct. 10, from 3:30 – 5:30 p.m. at the Gregorio Center.

The Halloween poster painting contest is open to Linden school students at no charge. The theme is Halloween and all entries must be received by either the student’s art teacher or the Gregorio Center at 330 Helen Street no later than Oct. 12.

Children in grades K-8 should submit 9×12 posters; children in grades 9-12 should submit 12×18 posters.  Posters exceeding these sizes will be disqualified.  Posters can be made from construction paper, cardboard or any other related materials.  Entries must have name, address, school, teacher and grade imprinted on a small card securely attached to the back of the poster.  Any material can be used to decorate the poster (glitter, fringe or fabric are all acceptable).  The poster is to be done in school if students have art this semester.  If students do not have art, posters may be done at home.  Paint or chalk may be used, there are no limitations.  No factory made Halloween decorations can be placed on a poster.  Judging will be done on Oct. 14.

For more information on any of the programs, call the John T. Gregorio Center at 908-474-8627 or visit Linden Recreation’s web site at
