CLARK—The Clark Township Reservoir Clean-up Committee will hold its sixth annual reservoir clean up on Saturday, Sept. 27. This year the focus will be on the trails and the banks of the Clark Reservoir. Interested volunteers should meet at the parking area loop, in front of Town Hall in Clark at 8:45 a.m. The clean-up will run between 9 a.m. and noon, but any amount of time or effort that people can volunteer is appreciated. Anyone can participate! Scouts, schools, churches, and civic groups are just some of the organizations that have participated in the past.

There is a large volume of debris and garbage to remove from the reservoir banks and areas where the floodplain widens out. This includes things like shopping carts, tires, and of course floatables (cans, bottles, plastics, etc). Clark Township and area vendors supply gloves and garbage bags, and material – snacks (donuts, bagels, coffee, bottled water, etc) to the volunteers. Over the last several years, hundreds of persons have participated, including girl scouts, cub scouts, boy scouts, fishermen, local activists and citizens.

All participants should wear jeans (or long pants), long-sleeved shirts, gloves and boots. Participants can bring a standard 5-gallon carry bucket with a handle (put your name on the bottom)…this makes for easy carrying of “stuff” for transfer to the large garbage bags. At the conclusion of the event a basic inventory of the “big stuff” that was removed is completed, and Monday morning the Clark Township DPW removes and disposes of all the trash. Last year volunteers removed many tires, a number of other large pieces of debris, bicycles a message in a bottle and over 100 large bags of floatable and other wastes. If you need more information, or plan on attending with a large group, please contact town hall at 732-388-3600 and leave a message for the Reservoir Clean-up Committee and they will get back to you.

In the event of rain, the cleanup will be rescheduled for Sunday, Sept. 28
