LINDEN – Police are searching for three young men who robbed a West Elizabeth Avenue convenience store early Monday morning.
According to police, the three men entered the store at 6 a.m. At least two of them were carrying black handguns and ordered everyone to the floor.
One of the robbers stood in the doorway as a lookout, while the other two walked to the rear of the store and confronted a 43-year-old Rahway man who was attempting to purchase a bag of ice, according to Capt. Raymond Tyra. One of the robbers pointed a gun at the customer and took his wallet and cell phone, police said.
Another customer, a 48-year-old man from Carteret, was ordered to the floor and one of the robbers unsuccessfully attempted to pull his wallet from his pocket, police said. The robbers ordered the cashier to open the register, but they left the store before taking any cash, police said. The robbers fled on foot toward the Linden train station.
Three customers and two employees were in the Quick Check during the robbery, but no one was injured, Tyra said.
Witnesses described the robbers as young black males, possibly teenagers, ranging from 5 feet to 5 feet 5 inches tall, police said. They all wore dark colored t-shirts, jeans and bandannas covering their faces at the time of the robbery.
Anyone with information is asked to call Linden police at (908) 474-8500.
