RAHWAY—Each year Rahway PAL awards scholarships to Rahway youths who have participated in PAL programs for at least three years and who have been accepted into college. Applicants must submit two letters of recommendation along with an essay describing the role Rahway PAL has played in their life. All submissions are then evaluated, anonymously, by the PAL scholarship committee.
This year, the scholarship committee had a very difficult time selecting the winners. There were so many good candidates that the committee went back to the board and asked for special permission to give out six awards rather than the usual two. This year’s recipients are Mark Petraroia, Nicolas Mimikos, Allison Russell, Kevin Tennet, Adam Shepard, and Ryan Zihlbauer.
Det./Sgt. Gene DeCarlo, executive director of Rahway PAL said, “We are proud to play a role in furthering the education of these individuals who clearly demonstrate what our programs are all about.”
