Durkin Named Student Of The Month

CLARK – Arthur L. Johnson High School’s Student-of-the-Month for June is senior Katelyn Durkin.

Durkin was previously selected by Katrina Anderson-Dobbins as the Distinguished Student in the Field of Academics in English in February and was selected by the administration to receive the Crusader Award as a junior.

Ranked 11th in her class, she is a member of the National Honor Society, the Spanish National Honor Society and was selected as a National Merit Scholar Commended Student. Katelyn attended the FBI National Academy and the Associates Youth Leadership Program (FBI NAA YLP) and is a member of their Graduates Association. She was a speaker at the FBI NAA New Jersey Chapter Meeting and was an FBI NAA Youth Representative at their annual conference.

Durkin is president of SPEL and attended the Lindsay Meyer Teen Institute. She is also a member of REBEL (Reaching Everyone By Exposing Lies) and was involved with their anti-drug and alcohol cross age teaching and Red Ribbon Rally.

While at ALJ, Durkin has been active in the History Club and assisted with their Darfur Doctors Without Borders Fundraiser. She also participated in the MS Bike Tour and Children’s Specialized Hospital Fundraiser. Durkin was a member of the musical stage crew and was musical assistant stage manager last year. She has been a member of the Hallway Decorating Committee for the past four years and was a member of the Puppetry Club in her sophomore year.

Outside of school, Durkin enjoys horseback riding and has participated in the Baymar Farms Riding Competitions for the past three years. She was the Riding Competition Year End Reserve Champion last year. Durkin is active in Girl Scouts and received the Girl Scout Silver Award.

Durkin works at Baymar Farms. After graduation, she will attend The College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Va. and major in English. She is the daughter of Beth and Steve Durkin.
