ELIZABETH – Eligible Union County seniors can receive $20 in vouchers from the state’s Farmer’s Market Program.
To be eligible for the vouchers, an individual must be a resident of Union County and be 60 or older. Annual income for individuals may not exceed $18,889 ($19,240 after July 1) and a married couple’s annual income may not exceed $25,327 ($25,900 after July 1.) Proof of income must be presented in the form of a Medicaid card, SSI card, or annual pension or Social Security statement.
Advance registration applications may be picked up at all senior nutrition sites and senior centers throughout Union County. Vouchers are accepted at any farmer’s market displaying the “WIC” sign. They are not accepted at grocery stores or other markets.
Union County Division on Aging staff will hold the first distribution of vouchers at the Elizabeth Farmers’ Market at Union Square Plaza, Elizabeth, on Tuesday, June 17 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. The market is open from 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. The second distribution of vouchers will be in Roselle Park at the Casano Community Center, 314 Chestnut Street, from 1-3 p.m. This is the opening day of the Roselle Park Farmer’s Market. This market will be open every Wednesday at the gazebo on Chestnut Street and Grant Avenue from 1-6 p.m.
A third distribution of vouchers will be Friday, July 11 at the First Baptist Church at Prince Street and Union Street in Elizabeth. Additional voucher distribution locations will be announced as they are scheduled.
