Rahway Plans Memorial Day Events

RAHWAY – The Rahway Veteran’s Central Committee has planned several events to honor the soldiers who gave their lives to defend America.

On May 17, veterans of American Legion Post 5 will decorate the graves of deceased veterans at Hazelwood Cemetery on Lake Avenue with American flags, beginning at 9:30 a.m.

On May 17, veterans of Catholic War Veterans Post 361 and Rahway Girl Scouts will decorate the graves of deceased veterans at St. Mary’s Cemetery, beginning at 9:30 a.m.

On May 25, the city’s annual Memorial Day Parade will begin at 1:30 p.m. Participating groups will form up at the City Hall complex at 1 p.m. The parade route will extend west on Milton Avenue, north on Pierpont Street, east on Elm Avenue, north on Irving Street, then south on Main Street, where the parade will pass the reviewing stand at City Hall and disperse. This year’s grand marshal is Paul Riekehof, a member of American Legion Post 5.

Mayor James Kennedy and other city and county officials are planning to participate. Groups from Rahway’s schools, as well as veterans and civic organizations, will also participate.
