Police Release Sketch Of Church Robber

RAHWAY – Police have released a composite sketch of a man who is wanted for robbing two Linden women of their purses as they were leaving St. Mark’s Church last week.

Detective Lt. Joseph Simonetti said that officers were sent to the Hamilton Avenue Church last Wednesday evening. They were met by two women who had minor injuries from being attacked by a thief who stole their purses. They had just left the church around 9:45 p.m. when they were attacked.

One of the victims, a 68-year-old woman, suffered head and hand injuries. She was taken to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital at Rahway, where she was treated and released. A second woman, 56, suffered various cuts and bruises on her face, arms and legs.

Police described the suspect as a dark-skinned black man, approximately 5-feet-9-inches, 20 to 25 years old, with short black hair. He was wearing a long-sleeve red shirt with a multi-colored graffiti-type print on the front.
