ELIZABETH – Eliazabeth’s Promise 2006, Inc. will host their second annual scholarship awards program on Friday, May 9, at Galloping Hill Inn of Union. This year, a new scholarship has been created to pay tribute to a local hero, Cpl. Luigi Marciante, Jr., who died while serving in Iraq last year.
Marciante, a graduate of Elizabeth High School, left behind his loving wife Stephanie and their eight-month old baby boy, Louie. The Peterstown native, who loved being a father, is remembered for his bravery, his selflessness and ability to brighten any room he entered.
Organizers will also be tribute to exceptional individuals by awarding these scholarships: the Anthony and Santina Conte Memorial Scholarship, the Lumina Pacheco Scholarship, the Dominic Parisi Memorial First Executive EHS Principal Award, the Colleen Fraser Sept. 11 Memorial Award and the Dr. Miguel Guilarte Scholarship.
“These scholarships mean so much to our students and having them pay tribute to local heroes who have sacrificed so much for us is very fitting,” said Councilman Frank Cuesta, founder of Elizabeth’s Promise. “Last year, we awarded over 25 scholarships and this year we want to raise more funds to help students offset the rising cost of high education.”
Elizabeth’s Promise is reaching out to individuals who would like to support the Cpl. Luigi Marciante Jr. Memorial Scholarship. In addition to this scholarship, members of the public are encouraged to donate in the name of any individual they would like to honor. Those who wish to donate may send their contribution to Elizabeth’s Promise 2006, Inc., P.O. Box 9541, Elizabeth, NJ 07202, or call 908-352-9888.
